The hesperidic family, citrus, citrus. What's this ?

In the perfume families, I would like the citrus!
The citrus family is the oldest in perfumery and also one of the most present in perfumes for men and perfumes for women. It is often the main theme of a perfume and its notes are at the top, therefore very volatile thanks to their lightness.

Let's go back to the origins.

The hesperides bear the name of the three nymphs daughters of Atlas and Hesperis responsible for watching over a garden of oranges representing immortality and fertility.
This legend from the Greek mythology then gave the name to the citrus family. It brings together all the fresh citrus notes, those vitamin, tangy, invigorating and dynamic notes so coveted. Its smell can be sweeter or more bitter.
This family is also called "Citrus". These notes are produced from the essential oil contained in the zest of the fruit, here are the main ones:

  • Lemon
  • Bergamot
  • Orange
  • Grapefruit
  • Mandarin
  • The yuzu
  • Clementine
  • Verbena
  • The citron
  • The sour orange
  • The communal

These fruits are today essential ingredients of niche perfumery s and are associated with more powerful or softer notes to give birth to original and complex scented creations.

The citrus fragrance family is characterized by its sparkle, freshness, luminosity, subtlety and vibration, but also by the dynamism it brings to fragrances.

The citrus / woody marriage.

The citrus family goes very easily with other fragrance families, in particular thanks to its lightness. Although the citrus / aromatic marriage is the most frequent, the woody citrus accord will have a nice depth. Indeed, the oud in middle note or in base note, transcends by its warmth and offers an excellent hold. The fusion of these two forces reveals new olfactory emotions, a overwhelming contradiction between sensuality, intense heat and aromatic cold.
